Dan The Fish Man

What an honour! Three years running!

I'm delighted to have won the award for the Devon Life "Best seafood supplier of the year" for the third year running! It's a huge surprise.

I am so proud to win again for North Devon, and my sincere thanks go to everyone who voted for me. Devon Life magazine put on a wonderful glitzy black tie evening, and it was wonderful to be there to accept the award.

Thank you again. The fish fight goes on!

Unmissable pre-Christmas treat at Rick Stein’s

Don’t forget that the next Lunch Club venue is at Rick Stein’s main restaurant in Padstow. It should prove a culinary delight.

The three-course meal will be created from the very best fish and seafood that the West Country can offer, and the day is all set to be the perfect pre-Christmas treat.

It's being held on the last Sunday in November (the 27th). So if you’re one of my regular customers, it would be marvellous if you could join us.

Make sure you book early to avoid disappointment. Ring me now on 07970 932566.

Going for the hat trick!

Well, I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Tomorrow the judges will be announcing the winner of the Best Fish Supplier in the Devon Life Food and Drink Awards. I’ve won it two years running, and I’m proud and delighted to have been short listed for a third time, and representing North Devon once again.

Whatever the outcome, I’d like to thank everyone in North Devon who has nominated me for the award. It’s a huge honour, and I’m overwhelmed. I’ve dusted off the tuxedo, just in case!

I’d like to offer a sincere thank you again to all my supporters. I’m so proud of what we are achieving in our continuing mission to promote the very best of West Country seafood. And I’m grateful to the stalwart Devon fishermen who labour at sea on our behalf, landing their treasured catches at Appledore Fish Dock.

Food Festival and Lunch Club updates

It’s food festival month! Busy and hard work, but always immensely enjoyable. I love meeting customers old and new and getting the message out about the excellence of Devon fish and seafood. My crusade goes on!

First there’s my regular monthly stall at Barnstaple Pannier Market on Sunday 9 October. I’ll be cooking up a delicious new crab chowder, and scooping it into bread bowls. Make sure you try one, I guarantee you’ll find it totally scrumptious.

North Devon Food Fest

And that’s just a warm up for the annual North Devon Food Fest, which is being held at Barnstaple Pannier Market on Sunday 16 October. Depending on catches by our stalwart North Devon fishermen, I’m hoping to be cooking and selling Clovelly herring, lobsters and crabs. I’ll be helped by my team of lovely Breton-clad ladies, who always help to make the event not only a culinary delight but huge fun. As ever, this event is a highlight of the Devon food year, and a showcase for the very best in the fish and seafood our fishermen can offer.

This year’s festival is billed as the biggest and most exciting event in its nine-year history. It showcases local food businesses from across North Devon selling everything from cheese and ales to local meat and fresh produce.

Dan’s Fish Lovers’ Lunch Club

My Fishlovers’ Lunch Club day at Café du Parc in Bideford was, as expected, a tremendous success. Those French chefs are something special! Their superb café is one of Bideford’s best-kept secrets. You’re always assured of an excellent meal and great service.

The next Lunch Club venue is Rick Stein’s in Padstow. The date is the last Sunday in November (27th). Book early to avoid disappointment. Ring me on 07970 932566

The Lunch Club get togethers are always friendly and informal. My regular customers love getting together to chat about food, and to enjoy beautifully cooked meals created from the very best in Devon fish and seafood. And if you like fine wine you won’t be disappointed. The meetings are also a great way for us to show our support for Devon fishermen, who work so hard on our behalf.

Devon Life Food and Drink Awards

I’d like to express my sincere thanks to all of my customers who have once again nominated me for the Best Fish Supplier in the Devon Life Food and Drink Awards. It’s a great honour!  I’m overwhelmed and proud. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and my tuxedo dusted in case I do come out as the winner when the judges make their decision in November.

Thanks again!

Dan sails to Lundy

I’m really looking forward to sailing to Lundy on Tuesday 23 August with my merry crew. We’ll be there as part of a series of extreme cooking days. My old mate Martin Hesp and I will be cooking up some delicious seafood on a picnic stove. A definite favourite will be my 59 second squid recipe! There’ll be a lot of media people there as well, so we should get some decent coverage - I'm proud and humbled that a fish merchant like me is now recognised as a national food champion.

I’ve brought back some great fish and seafood ideas from France, so make sure you have a chat with me when you see me on my barrow. And don’t forget that I’m at Hartland Farmers’ Market on the first Sunday of every month between 10am and 1pm until the end of September.
